The Department of Romance Studies, in partnership with CHAT, the Toupin-Bolwell Fund, and the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life, happy to welcome the Tufts community to a special event with Petra Rivera-Rideau, Associate Professor in American Studies at Wellesley College. She will be sharing her research into the music and public persona of Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny) as alens to explore Puerto Rico’s complex socio-political landscape. Professor Rivera-Rideau’s research follows how Bad Bunny’s music explores the legal theory and the causes of Puerto Rico’s debt crisis; the island’s relationship with the U.S. and its colonial legacy; LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in Puerto Rican society; and political corruption and gentrification.
