Join the Romance Studies Department for an intimate conversation in Spanish with Rita Indiana, where we’ll discuss what it means to write in Spanish in the U.S., the creative process, and much more. This event will be held on March 13 in theTufts LatinX Center at 3 pm.

Rita Indiana is a multifaceted creative force. She is a Global Distinguished Professor and Director of the MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish at New York University (NYU), an award-winning author, and a visionary musician and artist. Her novel La mucama de Omicunlé (Tentacle in English) won the Caribbean Writers Association Literary Prize in 2017, and her latest multimedia show, Tu nombre verdadero (2023), has garnered widespread acclaim. Her 2020 album Mandinga Times, described by The New Yorker as a “frenetic, danceable soundtrack for this miserable moment,” feels eerily relevant today.

Coffee, tea, and pastries will be served. Mediated by Emara S. Saez. All are welcome. For questions, contact Isabela Fraga
