Film Screening & Q&A of Gone to the Village, 2/29
Granoff Music Center
The Music Department, in conjunction with CHAT, the CSRD, TDPS, FMS, History, and the Department of Art & Architecture, would like to invite the Tufts community to a special presentation of the documentary film, Gone to the Village, directed by Kwasi Ampene. The film depicts the funeral rites for the Queen Mother of the Asante in Ghana. Filmed on location in Kumase during the funeral, audiences witness traditions that have proudly resisted the onslaught of colonial rule and globalization. Through the film, we learn about the history of the Asante as well as the central role of women in this matriarchal society.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the film will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be a Q&A with the director after the screening. This event is free-- no tickets required. All are welcome to attend.
