The University Ecologies team invites the Tufts Community to a special talk on Thursday, October 16 with Paul Robbins, Dean of the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Paul Robbins’ 2007 book, Lawn People: How Grasses, Weeds, and Chemicals Make Us Human, opened up new ways of thinking about the American lawn. Almost 20 years later, the book is still widely read as an entryway into the politics of everyday environments. As the first event of the 2025-2026 University Ecologies series at Tufts University, please join us as we revisit the book and trouble our attachments to mundane monocultures.

If you require assistance in order to attend, please contact alex.blanchette@tufts.edu.

Sponsored by the departments and programs of Anthropology, Biology, English, Environmental Studies, Race, Colonialism & Diaspora, Sociology, Science & Technology Studies, Urban & Environmental Policy and Planning, and the Office of Sustainability.
