Society for American Music Hampsong Education Fellowship in American Song

Budget: Up to $1,000
Purpose: Supports educators at any phase of their careers who wish to help students and the general public understand American history and culture through the medium of song by developing curricular or co-curricular projects that utilize materials from the Song of America database, Voices Across Time, or other primary resources in American song. Funding may support the development of print and/or online curricular resources, performances with associated educational materials, collaborative ventures that include non-musicians or non-music scholars and educators, lecture-recitals, illustrated performances, or other innovative approaches that advance the goals of Song of America and Voices Across Time. Recipients are required to submit a one-page budget and a final report within one year of receiving the award.
Eligibility: Educators in the humanities and social sciences, including K–12 teachers, home-school educators, graduate students in education programs, college and university professors, museum specialists, performers, and others who educate special audiences and the general public about song in American history and culture. Educators who have completed Voices Across Time training are particularly encouraged to apply.

Wenner-Gren Foundation Post-PhD Research Grant

Budget/Amount: Up to $25,000; grants are nonrenewable, there is no limit to the duration of the grant, and no overhead or indirect costs are allowed.
Purpose: Supports individual research projects undertaken by doctorates in anthropology and doctorates in related fields who hold an academic appointment in an anthropology department. The program welcomes projects from any anthropological subfield, methodology, research location, or topic, with particular interest in research that integrates multiple subfields and pioneers new approaches and ideas.
Eligibility: Qualified scholars of any nationality or institutional affiliation who hold a doctoral degree in anthropology are eligible. Applicants with doctorates in related fields may also apply if they have an academic appointment in anthropology. Independent scholars and senior scholars are welcome to apply.

Mellon Emerging Faculty Leaders Award
Deadline: December 1, 2026, at 5:00 PM ET.
Budget/Amount: $20,000 stipend ($12,000 for summer research support and $8,000 for research assistance during the academic year).
Purpose: Supports early-career faculty in the humanities and social sciences whose research focuses on democracy, society, and education in the Americas and who are building campus communities through teaching, scholarship, mentoring, and service. The award recognizes junior faculty who demonstrate leadership and a strong commitment to creating vibrant and inclusive campus communities.
Eligibility: Applicants must be assistant professors in tenure-track appointments who are pursuing tenure, typically in the fourth or fifth year of their appointment, and must have successfully passed their third-year or midpoint review by January 31, 2027. Applicants must not have already submitted a tenure dossier or be considered for tenure during the award year. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents as of December 1, 2026.

Purpose: General Education/Humanities curriculum redesign or course development. The initiative aims to revitalize the role of the humanities in general education by exposing a broad array of students to transformative texts; helping students of all backgrounds build a sense of belonging and community; strengthening the coherence and cohesiveness of general education; and increasing teaching opportunities for humanities faculty.
Eligibility: Regionally accredited private not-for-profit and public institutions of higher education, including community colleges, liberal arts colleges, regional comprehensive institutions, and research universities.

Wenner-Gren Foundation Fellowship in Anthropology and Black Experiences

Budget/Amount: $50,000 stipend over 9 months. Funds may be paid directly to the fellow or through an affiliated institution. No overhead or indirect costs allowed.
Purpose: This writing fellowship expands anthropological conversations and builds capacity in anthropology as a career and field of study by amplifying perspectives previously underrepresented in the discipline. The fellowship supports individuals whose research draws on Black studies, critical race studies, diasporic Africana studies, the vernacular insights of communities of color, and other sources of inspiration growing out of global Black experiences to advance new lines of scholarship in any of anthropology’s subfields. Fellows participate in a cohort experience that includes workshops and mentoring designed to amplify the public impact of their writing projects.
Eligibility: Open to PhD-holding anthropologists of all ranks, including independent scholars. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Prior recipients of an Anthropology and Black Experiences Fellowship or a Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship are not eligible.

Budget/Amount: CAD $100,000 in unrestricted research support over two years. Funds may be used for research expenses, course release/teaching buyout, support for students or postdocs, conference travel, and other research-related activities. CIFAR also separately covers travel costs associated with attending CIFAR program meetings
Purpose: Supports interdisciplinary research examining how boundaries between “us” and “them” are created, challenged, and transformed across societies. The program brings together philosophers, legal scholars, and social scientists to address issues related to democracy, migration, solidarity, prejudice, violence, belonging, and inclusion, with particular attention to Indigenous and Global South perspectives.
