“Ecology Now!”: Call for Student Poster Presentations

The Department of International Literary and Cultural Studies is organizing an interdisciplinary symposium titled "Ecology Now!" on March 7, 2025, co-sponsored by ILCS, the Charles Smith Fund, CHAT, Department of English, the Environmental Studies Program, and the Film and Media Studies Program. In this symposium, we will explore how urgent ecological challenges are represented and negotiated in global literature, culture, and media.

The award-winning science fiction writer and translator Ken Liu will be giving the keynote speech “The Ecology of Meaning-Making.” Tufts faculty members and graduate students from ILCS, SMFA, English, Romance Studies, and the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies will be giving presentations on their ecologically inspired research.

We are currently looking for poster presentations given by undergraduate students at Tufts. You can either present on your eco-critical research or eco-conscious creative projects. Each undergraduate student will have 3-5 minutes to give a “lightning speech” to introduce their project and the opportunity to present a poster at the conference venue to visualize their work. Prizes up to $100 (in the form of gift cards from the Tufts Bookstore) will be given to the best poster presentation voted for by the attendees of the conference. The winner(s) will be announced a week after the conference.

The deadline for submission of proposals is January 22, 2025. In your proposal, please briefly describe the themes of your presentation and some preliminary ideas for your poster design. If you are interested or have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Professor Dingru Huang (dingru.huang@tufts.edu). We look forward to celebrating your work!
