For our final open house of the year, CHAT celebrated the excellent work of part-time faculty in the humanities at Tufts. This included a slideshow of the faculty who shared their profiles with us, and a toast to the part-time faculty in all of the humanities departments.
If you were unable to attend, this is the text:
Welcome everyone. We are so delighted you decided to join us to appreciate our part-time faculty in the humanities.
I do have a quick toast to the part-time faculty. Faculty, you are the teachers who bring fresh perspectives, deep expertise, and tremendous passion into our classrooms. Many of you juggle multiple campuses, jobs, and commitments, yet you show up for our students with remarkable dedication. You guide our students through big questions, difficult texts, creative risks, and new ways of seeing the world — all while modeling what it means to think critically, communicate clearly, and care deeply.
Part-time faculty often work behind the scenes, but your impact is anything but hidden. You mentor students long after class ends. You design thoughtful courses that stretch their imaginations. You help keep our departments vibrant, innovative, and connected to the world beyond campus. And you do all this with a level of commitment and generosity that deserves far more recognition than it typically receives.
So today, we pause to acknowledge you — not as “part-time” in spirit or influence, but as essential contributors to the intellectual life of this university. Thank you for everything you bring to Tufts: your scholarship, your creativity, your patience, and your belief in the power of the humanities.

To all of our faculty in the humanities-- thank you for all that you do.
