Congratulations to Dr. Kendra Field, Dr. Kerri Greenidge, and Kyera Singleton, for being selected by the City of Boston to study the history of slavery in Massachusetts.
Their research team will be creating a “comprehensive historical inquiry and produce a report on the City of Boston’s role in and historical ties to the slave trade and the institutions and legacies of slavery,” according to the official request released earlier this week. Enslavement of Africans — as well as Native Americans and others — was a central part of the economy of colonial Boston. This will be a multi-year project with the first research findings published by mid-2024.
