Dr. Jessica Remedios is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the Social Identity and Stigma (SIS) lab at Tufts University. She received her BS in psychology from the University of Toronto in 2007, and her PhD in psychology from the University of Toronto in 2012. Her research draws on theories of intergroup relations and social cognition to understand the psychological effects of stigma. Because stigmas (caused by, for example, systems of racism and sexism) are experienced simultaneously, her research takes an intersectional approach. Understanding the emergent effects of stigmatization for individuals with multiple stigmatized identities (e.g., women of color or multiracial people) reveals often overlooked experiences that broaden our understanding of identity, stigma, prejudice, and discrimination.
